I am a regular contributor to the BBC, Elephant Journal, Huffington Post and Om Magazine on this topic and am writing a book about teens and yoga. I love to present and contribute to radio shows too.My main interest at the moment is how we avoid and deconstruct the brutalisation of boys through empowering girls and women. I see yoga as so much more than postures. I see mindful yoga as a lifestyle, a way of empowering and enriching our lives on every level.

I call myself a 'yoga addict'! Initially I came to yoga to 'get a bit of exercise' but over the years I have discovered that the many layers of yoga go so much deeper than just the body. Now I come toyoga for much more than just 'exercise'! Through teaching yoga, one to one sessions and pregnancy yoga; I hope to be able to help others discover the rich benefits of the yoga. I am convinced that yoga, practiced suitably, can benefit absolutely everyone.

I came to yoga in the late 1990's after enjoying other disciplines including running, Tai-Chi, and Tae-Kwondo. I enjoyed these activities, but they weren't exactly what I was looking for. I firststudied Ashtanga Yoga under a senior yoga teacher called James Critchlow in Birmingham. After I had spent several years doing a regular practice and self study he encouraged me to become a yoga teacher.

Krishnamacharya spent the first part of his life studying Indian philosophy, Ayurveda and Yoga. His thirst for knowledge led him to study at the great centres of learning and to seek out teachers whocould transmit the vast wisdom of the ancient sages. Hearing of a great Yoga teacher in Nepal Krishnamacharya went in search of him. Walking all the way to Mount Kailash he found the sage in his cave dwelling.
Although I grew up in England, I was born in Udaipur, India; my father is Bengali Indian and my mother is English. The interweaving of 2 cultures has been a constant theme in my life, not justintellectually but personally. We kept in close touch with the Indian side of the family and it was my Indian grandfather who gave me my first book on yoga when I was 15. He was a very keen practitioner of yoga and encouraged me to take it up.
The postures used in Yulia's classes all derive from Hatha yoga. Hatha is the exercise and meditation regime developed by ancient monastic communities in the far East. Hatha yoga shares the sameancestry as other exercise regimes such as tai chi and kung fu.
I first discovered the wonderful benefits of yoga in 1998. I felt so strongly that I wanted to share these experiences with others that I went on to train as a yoga teacher in 2001 with SUNRA. Aftersome years I decided to expand my knowledge to a more hands on approach. I trained in Thai yoga massage, an obvious companion to yoga, with METTA. During a trip to Goa I came across Indian head massage and felt inspired to add this to my repertoire.
