Guruji as he is affectionately known lived until he was 95. He has studied and taught Yoga for over 80 years. His dedicated practice and teaching continue to inspire pupils of Yoga all over the world. He is widely respected for his achievements and is recognised as the most influential Yogi of our time.
Mr Iyengar pioneered use of Yoga equipment to make Yoga postures accessible to all. His understanding of alignment in Yoga asana ensures that they bring maximum benefits to health.
The wisdom of Sage Patanjali's Yoga Sutras permeates his teaching. His book Light on Yoga has sold over a million copies and is translated into 18 languages. He set the highest standards for his teachers and students. He lived in Pune, India and ran a thriving Yoga Institute which his son Prashant and daughter Geeta continue to run with great skill and dedication.
